Impierce Technologies has unveiled the beta version of UniMe, an Identity Wallet built on the IOTA Identity framework. This groundbreaking innovation has the potential to redefine digital identity management, especially in the field of education. Collin Brown, in a tweet, expressed his excitement about UniMe’s ability to reshape digital identity and its alignment with the goals of the NGDIL consortium.
The UniMe Beta demo, developed by the NGDIL consortium, showcases the versatility of digital identities in education. It demonstrates how UniMe can simplify the process of transitioning between different learning platforms, eliminating the need for new accounts or repetitive identity verification. This initiative aims to promote lifelong learning by making onboarding at new educational institutions effortless.
The NGDIL consortium, led by Koning Willem I College and supported by Tangle Labs and Impierce Technologies, has been working on a Proof-of-Concept (PoC) phase. They have created an interactive demo to demonstrate the capabilities of Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI) and OpenBadges technologies. The consortium aims to eliminate vendor lock-in, promote user choice, and showcase the benefits of an open ecosystem that adheres to international standards.
UniMe’s public beta release not only brings it closer to eIDAS 2.0 compliance but also endorses the OpenID4VC standards from the OpenID Foundation. It offers a revolutionary method of logging in without the need for an account, password, or third-party observance, ensuring a simplified and secure exchange of digital credentials. This venture is supported by Digital Zen, Filancore, the Province of Utrecht, and the Tangle Community Treasury, and provides a reliable path to experience and adopt Self-Sovereign Identity.
UniMe, along with the NGDIL consortium, is not only introducing a new technology but also ushering in a new era where digital identity goes beyond traditional boundaries. This opens up a billion-dollar market that IOTA is poised to dominate.
