IOTA has released the latest version of its decentralized identity (DID) solution, IOTA Identity 1.1. This update introduces new features that enhance user control over their digital identity and improve data integrity. It builds upon the previous version, IOTA Identity 1.0, which was launched in November 2023.

With the increasing importance of digital identity in the Web3 revolution, the release of IOTA Identity 1.1 establishes IOTA as a leader in the decentralized internet space. The new version offers users greater control over their digital identity, ensuring privacy and security.

IOTA Identity 1.1 is an upgrade to the network’s DID and associated library. It includes support for Self-Describing JSON Web Token (SD-JWT), which allows users to selectively disclose only the necessary claims to verifiers. This improves privacy by preventing unnecessary disclosure of personal information.

For example, users can prove to verifiers that they have sufficient funds for a transaction without revealing the exact amount in their wallet. This selective disclosure feature enhances privacy and security in an era where digital identities are increasingly valuable.

Another new feature in IOTA Identity 1.1 is support for StatusList2021. This mechanism allows verifiers to check the status of verifiable credentials, ensuring that they have not been suspended or revoked. It also provides users with a secure and private way to revoke compromised credentials.

IOTA Identity was initially launched in 2018 and has since been continuously improved to integrate digital identities into decentralized applications. The previous release, IOTA Identity 1.0, introduced features like alias outputs controlling other alias outputs and the ability to hold, send, and receive tokens. These advancements have made IOTA Identity a gateway to Web3, allowing seamless integration with other elements like non-fungible tokens.

In summary, the release of IOTA Identity 1.1 with its new features for selective disclosure and status information further establishes IOTA as a leader in decentralized identity solutions. Users can now have greater control over their digital identity while ensuring privacy and security in the Web3 era.
